Ok. Not talking law or culture, but if you really want to defend the driving situation here, can you actually say you like it, understand it, think it's logical, etc. Please present a non-culture based argument

neddy can't possibly be talking about jianxinyuan. That place is ok, I eat from that chain all the time. Even the original is just ok. Two hours is a huge exaggeration, more like ten mins.
I agree with Magnifico. But the crazy thing is that despite all the disincentives for car ownership (expensive parking, pricey gas, super high tax on imported cars, inevitability of traffic jams, etc) everyone MUST have a car. I could only WISH we had a public transit infrastructure like this back where I'm originally from.
I think its fair to say everyone contributing to this discussion has strong opinions
It's not a matter of being a defeatist. The issue is that there are literally millions of people in Kunming and like maybe a hundred frustrated laowai. We can't change their minds, so its best to just be safe

I really like this restaurant. The food is excellent, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The downside is that their rubing has become much more expensive than it was a year or two ago.
Spent a nice quiet afternoon here. The wifi was fast and coffee was good. Like others said, it was closed for a bit so that is problematic - 4 stars.
I haven't spent enough time in Dali to say this is the best in Dali. But it is very good. Would recommend to the weary traveler in need of western food.
I finally made my way over to Slice of Heaven yesterday. The pizza is great here. I will definitely be returning in the near future.
This is a good cafe. Better for tea than for coffee; but the coffee is acceptable. A real benefit of this place is its prime location on the Yunda campus. It's a convenient place to meet with students and faculty. The only downside is the slow speed of the internet.
A quick guide to Kunming's Metro Line 2
发布者You can also take the 26 bus from Jianshe lu near the intersection with Wenlin jie to the Huancheng Xi Lu station if the other buses aren't fast or convenient enough
A quick guide to Kunming's Metro Line 2
发布者@Geogramatt, Chuanxin Gulou is closest and you can take the 85 bus; but unfortunately that bus doesn't come very often. You can also take the 1 bus to Tangzixiang.
Around Town: China's last narrow gauge passenger train
发布者Does anyone know if you can still bring bikes on the train stopping at Wangjiaying? I'd like to bike from there to the north of Fuxian lake so as to avoid all the annoying guandu traffic
Kunming neighborhoods face water rationing
发布者No. It's about 400-500km west. Yunlong is part of Dali prefecture.
Kunming north-south metro lines near completion
发布者Went for a ride today. Not crowded yet. It seems all stops on lines 1 and 2 are in operation except for the North Train Station.
