Call me a spoilsport, but i don't look to restaurant reviews to be entertained. I look to get a decent, fair appraisal of local restaurants. Each is entitled to his opinion of course, but BillDan has reviewed 11 restaurants and given a total of 7 stars. Most of his reviews are based on how much worse they are than (insert city name here) and most are lengthy rants with lame attempts at humour along the way. Problem is, you're not in SW Texas anymore, so for the love of god stop banging on about how much better it is, or go back. I've been to all those restaurants you reviewed, have a vested interest in none of them, and by KUNMING standards, they certainly are not as bad as his reviews would have you believe. These are people's businesses, not a target for your malcontent 'humor'. This is probably why someone told you to open your own restaurant - because your reviews are not just 'honest', but come across as overly smug and self-satisfied 'i know/have had sooo much better' and so on... The problem is, you're not in Texas anymore, or Seattle or wherever, and to be honest, most people find those 'it's not like it is at home...' people really, really tedious.
Three new reviews in one day from BillDan. A busy bee he's been! All restaurants, of course, way below his standards, or those of America, Mexico, Beijing, Seattle etc etc ad nauseum. What happened to 'This is my last post here at this farce of a site ever, and in closing... the food in Kunming sucks!' ?
Wait, did someone say they eat the Fillet O' Fish for their 'fish fix'? Jesus wept. That's depressing. A grey, aneamic little square of oceanic misery covered in a tartar sauce that looks like it would glow in the dark.
I don't judge anyone for what they choose to put in their body, but there really is no arguing the point that McDonalds is indeed s**t food.
Mechanically separated meat, pink slime in the burgers, choc full of synthetic ingredients, additives, saturated fats and god knows what else. They did an experiment with a McDonalds meal, check it out:
You've got to wonder what exactly is going into your body when it doesn't go off after over half a year.
I agree with the OP for the most part. It does sometimes seem that many foreigners here give up too quickly on local food. There's a lot of great stuff out there, and it's not all spicy, dirty, full of crap etc.
BTW, it's really easy to fillet your own fish if bones are such a big deal...
Regardless of the size of the chemical dose, just look at the picture! A brick factory which looks absolutely filthy; baskets of mixian half spilling onto the floor, and a few dudes with no protective clothing on, hard at work, shedding blood, sweat and tears... all of which are likely to end up in the mixian.
The question is: how many restaurants buy from dumps like this? My guess is a lot, because it will be way cheaper than other places that refuse to cut corners to save a few kuai (of those, I doubt there's many)
That's the bottom line.
It's not far-fetched to imagine that those who eat mixian regularly, may, at some point in time, have been eating mixian made in a place like the one above, which was then cooked in gutter oil, with fake meat, or pork passed off as beef, along with vegetables that were pumped full of antibiotics and raised on water so polluted it's unfit for agricultural usage.
Yep, 15 Yuan is much more reasonable. It's nice to see that you value your customers, Barbara, and as i said in my original review, Slice of Heaven is a great place. The Friday pizza deal is a genuine bargain, and it's a cool little place to hang out for drinks too.
