Nobody I know would ever put a hundred in a hongbao... It's a kinda creepy amount.
I'm not sure how widespread this is, but in my circles, the language of numbers is important. So, 8 or multiples thereof are good, and 4, 40, 44 totally impossible. 1 is a lonely number, so never give a 1 (or 100). A hongbao should also not be 土豪, there's a limit. 200 for close family, 88 or 68 for others. Limit for a wedding is 1668 (yiliuliuba, happiness all the way) unless it's a dowry (no limit) or very close relative or friend. Weddings, or hongbaos to couples should be even numbers, not singles (obviously). 89 is a good one for kids and friends (on no specific occassion) too but not for weddings.
A lot can be said with numbers. The older people can discuss for days and weeks about how much to put in a hongbao for an approaching event. A lot of effort is put into conveying the exact sentiment and goodwill, and the monetary value is secondary (but don't be 土豪, appreciate the value too!).
Again, most of my experience might be limited, or regional (human countryside). I think in cities, and kunming, the language of numbers and amounts in a hongbao (which my spellchecker constantly corrects to "hängbröst"), is nowhere near as important as other rural areas.
Well, I've been doing these things in the past, all over europe and US, and generally I dont see kids at all, everyone is 35+. I have a hard time believing that "juniors" are doing 10k/day classes.
Cantonese..forget it :) As long as instruction and materials are mainly in english, thats all i need. As well as a valid tax receipt...
I'm struggling trying to find info from the Philippines..bad connection, bad websites (no prices shown) etc. Sent a couple of mails and will see.
@blobbles,any specific place to recommend? I'm looking for sharepoint, BI, sql, advanced msoffice etc. In english...? The actual certification is not so essential..as long as the training is provided.
@dazzer, I don't care where it is as long as its as convenient as possible :) I'm more interested in the course content than in networking, which will be the case for most participants of this kind of I.T. training, considering costs...Even rich evil wastefull corporations don't throw 10.000 per day on training guys who are just there to hang out.
Anyplace else in China? And for online, any links? I found some links but none turned out to be real/gave me a good impression/.. /.
Background is, my company is sending me to switzerland for a 3 day course, costing 35000 plus travel, hotel. i don't want to go, looking for an alternative closer by :) I got a recommendation to do a search in Philippines which I'll try tomorrow.
Nice atmosphere and cosy but the western food is bad. I think they deep-fry the burgers. As a cafe - 4 stars (service is a little bit lacking at times), coffee and cakes etc are good. As a restaurant, 2 stars (western food is too bad, asian food is mamahuhu).
"All the Meat" only had about 3 slices of salami on it, so maybe i got the wrong order. Anyway, leaving that aside - soggy bread, ketchup as tomatosauce, and cheese was probably from a tube.
Potato wedges soggy as well.
I left half my meal, the only thing up to scratch was the coke and the service. Will not be back.
If the name of the shop is written in english then they should speak english, yes! A pokey shithole trying to give the impression of a quaint li'l ole bookshop. Pig-ignorant staff, never been greeted with a smile there, nor even greeted. If you must shop here, bring your own bag. 1 star earned for selection and the (for me) convenient location.

There are too few cabs and too few busses. Ban private cars from the city center.
