Forums > Living in Kunming > Renting for 2 months

there are a fair few apartment style accomm options on the regular booking sites like agoda and booking.com etc. some very reasonably nightly rates, so staying a month or two these are an option.

I have brought my kids to Kunming for a couple months at a time, cos that's the longest we've been able to stay in the past too...and these apartments have been a good option.

We had a few offers of local apartments this time, but many are unfurnished and so not really appropriate to buy all the stuff if u r only staying a month or so.

At least apartment style accomm that is aimed at tourists will have all your basic cooking needs and bedding etc.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Yahoo and train tickets

So glad this forum is here to ask these questions :-)

1. Is yahoo mail still accessible in China, I know gmail isn't, just wanna make sure I have an account I can access.

2. Need 4 soft sleeper train tickets, to lijiang for a trip only a few days after arrival in Kunming...was concerned they might be booked out...I see you can book tickets on Ctrip...anyone got any experience of this...would need to pick up tickets at a ticket office...just wanna make sure they would recognize a Ctrip booking???? We usually go to ticket office on Wuyi Lu, but we have always bought them in person a few weeks in advance on previous stays in Kunming...this would be first time booking through Ctrip ...is this straight forward to the ticket staff???? (Can speak fairly good Chinese)

Thanks oh wise ones:-)

Forums > Living in Kunming > Huiying dentist

Hi guys, this forum so helpful thought I would ask this...is this dentist still same place as the ad listed, their website link does not seem to work?

I had an emergency treatment and temp filling a few weeks ago in Australia, off to Kunming soon and risking not getting the job finished before I go...but just in case flares up again in Kunming, just wanna know there is a good dentist I can go to :-)

Cheers!!!!

Forums > Travel Yunnan > SIM cards for dummies please

Hi all,
sounds like a dumb question, but its been over 3 yrs since last in Kunming.

1. Last time in Kunming they had made a new rule that foreigners could not buy a sim using their passport, only if you had an Chinese ID card could you buy one...this was the same news at many outlets...a Chinese friend ended up asking for us and explained to us the new rule...they used their ID card for us.

Is it still the same rule??

2. Last time I took an old Nokia phone for the local sim...this time if I take my iPhone (I think it is a 7) can I get a local sim to fit it? If I do that, will I def not be downloading stuff unbeknownst to me on my Australian network??? I hear these stories of people returning to $1000000 bills and I just want to make sure having a local sim in the phone detaches my phone from my home network???

Sorry to sound like a dummy...so any tips of how this is done these days would be appreciated :-)
