Is it easy for young male expats to meet the local women? Or are we generally considered 'undatable' due to local controversy or cultural differences, etc?

Also, my mandarin is still at the beginners level - so would it be a problem finding either a girl who will date my regardless of my mandarin and level and possibly help me improve or a girl who can speak English?

How do the locals treat Laowai in Kunming??

Anyone have any comparison stories between how they treat us in Kunming as opposed to other cities like Beijing etc?

Much appreciated! Heavily considering Kunming over Beijing because I like smaller, more tight knit communities, but I'm wondering what to expect.

Hey - Coming to China to teach English. Everyone's saying Kunming is the best! It apparently has a tight-knit expat community - which beats living in Beijing for me.

But I'm wondering, since it's not such a large international city (well not compared to Beijing or Shanghai) if it'll be best for someone who has only just begun learning mandarin?

I mean, can I find many Chinese people there who speak English? How do you all deal? How was your mandarin when arriving in mandarin??
