Last night there was an argument and fight in front of Salvador's. Everyone is safe and the dispute has been settled. However, tensions between the market vendors and businesses on Wenhua Xiang have spurred some anti-foreign sentiment and some general misunderstanding by people who were not present.

A time like this is very sensitive and everyone, especially those of us who are guests in this country, need to tread lightly. This means being extremely careful with what is posted online and also avoiding places where conflict could be likely. We are sure more information will come out over the next few days, and spread by word of mouth, but in the meantime please play your part to keep the peace.

This forum is not meant for use as a platform to vent frustrations about China or to reignite a situation that has already been resolved. As always, please remain civil and maintain respect for other posters.

Wanted to provide some clarification:

Every category's participants were nominated directly by users. If there were more nominations than the category limit, then we took the top five with the most nominations.

One large reason for percentage differences was the use of Weixin (WeChat) as a voting tool. Just like last year, we provided bilingual instructions on how to vote (and nominate) via sending a direct message to GoKunming's official account. Voting conducted in this manner was tabulated and added to the overall website count.

The total number of individual votes cast was in the thousands, while the total number of ballots was less. Since we do not require any voter to place their vote in every category, some categories received many more votes than others.

We abstained from publishing total votes as a compromise stemming from emails urging us to only use percentages, show total votes, do it the old way simply with winners and runners-up, or a combination of all of these.

Thanks to everyone who nominated and voted and to all the participants as well. Happy new year!

A review was deleted because the poster maintained eight separate GoKunming accounts, which were used to leave multiple negative reviews for the same business. The user has been banned and his comments removed from the site.

The review section is meant for honest commentary by distinct individuals. If users commenting in the review section do so only to discredit a venue, or if high ratings are clearly self-promotion by a business, the reviews will be deleted and the user banned.
