word of warning- i hope you realise that none of the sites listed above will take chinese bank cards. you'll need to have visa/mastercard for sure but most likely a card registered to a UK address.
The main version of QQ fills your computer with all sorts of junk but the international one (which uses the same protocols so can connect with Chinese users) is safe but only available in English, Japanese and French (no Chinese).
Web QQ is the most safe as it runs QQ in a virtual machine inside your browser (but I believe it only has Chinese GUI).
Kunming is NOT a tropical city. Not even close (well perhaps close geographically, but not meteorologically - at 2000m above sea level the temperature is fairly mild).

发布者i have no great desire to visit Dubai but could be a useful layover for Europe if it was Emirates rather than China Eastern. Eg Kunming > Dubai > London.
A couple of hours in the "worst of a sick system" to change planes would surely be bearable!

I've seen chengguan do all sorts of stuff. Just recently I saw them aggressively smashing up the tables outside someone's restaurant.
They are despised by the real police too I hear.
In my opinion they are nothing but a uniformed protection racket.
