Forums > Living in Kunming > Websites being redirected to infected pages It's the DNS server doing it. Ichina telecom has been doing it for years. Change your DNS server and it should go away.
The reason the .cn sites sometimes get redirected is the same. Your dns server your VPN is using probably doesn't have the site cached so asks a DNS server in China for the information.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Dropbox not working? If you want to run your own check out this list:
alternativeto.net/software/dropbox/?license=opensource
But a quick search on Baidu found dozens of alternatives that shouldn't be blocked by China. Assuming the files aren't of a sensitive nature then that's going to be your hassle free bet.
Just search for 百度网盘,酷盘,百度云,微云。。。any major internet company in china + 云 or 网盘 should get plenty of results.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Dropbox not working? So why not just setup your own website or ftp server? Outside of China it starts at only a few dollars a month for around 20 GB of space.. Assuming these aren't huge files I don't imagine it costing too much money in China.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Dropbox not working? There was the annual march in Hong Kong for democracy, and related protests this week. That's probably why it was blocked. When there are protests, "elections", or anything important almost everything gets blocked then. If you want reliable service you just have to get a VPN.

Update: Officials fired after school stampede kills six
发布者Schools in Kunming do the same thing. It's so bad many schools make them sign a document stating they aren't being forced to attend the "extra" classes... yeah, right.
Spring City looks to embrace sweeping green agenda
发布者Also look at the roads that were just recently redone. In the north they aren't even a year old and the top layer is rapidly decaying. When the holes get big enough to do serious damage to small cars they just put a traffic cone in it....
Spring City looks to embrace sweeping green agenda
发布者Kunming does invest, but the results are usually no where to be seen. Just look at all the new enlarged sewer pipes literally spewing shit all over the road.
Fishing on Dianchi Lake banned once again
发布者If it's banned for industrial use doesn't that mean there are some pretty nasty heavy metals in the water? Why would they allow shrimp to be fished in the past? Do they want people to get cancer or something?
Villainous jade king attempts billion yuan fraud
发布者Don't see how it could be insurance fraud. Nothing was stolen. The man just didn't pay off his debts.
