Forums > Food & Drink > Brooklyn Pizza "I wouldn't be surprised if, like Magnifico mentioned, this was a forum thread purposely started by a close friend of the owner to help give more exposure and create a buzz, since the Latest Reviews container doesn't appear anywhere on the main parts of the site."
Wow..interesting idea. But if you know any of the people at Brooklyn, you'd realize they would never do this and not pay too much mind to a couple of negative remarks on a GoK forum. The only reason I'm writing is because this forum seemed to be going in the "OMG 18700 kuai for a pizza!?" route. I like this place and I don't want to see their business hurt from the snowball of negativity that seems to overtake most of GoK's threads these days..especially 'proven' (in one's own head) conspiracies of respectful business owners starting threads on GoK to spark buzz about their business. If anyone thinks this is a 'conspiracy thread to get people talking', you need to go down to Brooklyn at 7PM and see how much they need a 'conspiratorial bump' from GoK readers..lame...
Forums > Food & Drink > Brooklyn Pizza Sorry Tim. Didn't mean to imply that you guys were affiliated..just wanted to give respect for the best draft beer in Kunming! But, looks like you guys will have some healthy competition soon! :)
Forums > Food & Drink > Brooklyn Pizza Alien: thanks for a balanced, constructive review of the place.
Prices are a bit high, but what expat run place in Kunming is cheap these days?? With 'Great Australian Bite opening tonight, French cafe opposite Brooklyn, this area is quickly developing into a much more welcoming, expat pleasing (and cultured local) area than 'fu-er-dai' wenlin jie.
Let's encourage them to get those other taps going! 4 draft lines in a place is a great luxury in Kunming! Respect to O'riely's for starting that trend!
Forums > Food & Drink > Brooklyn Pizza Magnifico, the point was that people who are not in Brooklyn shouldn't complain if the really good pizza they are eating in KUNMING is not exactly the same as in NY (even though the name IS Brooklyn Pizza; the expectation of pizza transplanted from NY is a bit extreme).
AndrewD: giving constructive criticism (ie. I hope the confusion with the ordering process gets solved) is helpful. Going on an internet forum to write about negative experiences against a newly opened business with way more positives than "they forgot my order once when they first opened" is not helpful. Did this person tell the owners? Probably not. Did this person tell half of Kunming's expat population. Yes.
My point of that late-night rant (perhaps not so clear cut) was that it would be nice if GoK readers/posters offer constructive criticism and support (tell the owners..i don't think they have time to read GoK these days) rather than a orgy of 'I didn't like this..this happened to ME..2ft of pizza is how much?? but I don't realize how big 2ft is' mentality.
Support your local expat businesses trying to bring a little piece of home to this outpost in China called Kunming. Everybody will be better off for it...even you!
Forums > Food & Drink > Brooklyn Pizza Decent prices, delicious food, great quality, excellent beer selection (and draft!) AND chill-ass people/atmosphere/music..in Kunming, China! Realize where you are, who's making it and what it means to the expat community, GoK posters.
Posting/complaining about a brand new establishment because it's offering a 2ft(!) UFO of a pizza for 185 (and not realizing that's a fair price); complaining about the kind, smiling, usually attentive bartender/server/manager because she forgot your order ONCE (if it's every time..understood, but trashing the place for something happening once in their first week of opening...kinda d!@k). Or, complaining that the pizza is not like in New York...
...doesn't help anybody a damn bit.
All you're doing is making others not want to go to a unique, well-executed restaurant that is just starting..in Kunming, CHINA!
Usually, I wouldn't care what posters on GoK think. But, I'd like to see this oasis of a chill restaurant/pizzeria/neighborhood bar survive in the desert of mixian.
Props Brooklyn! Keep doing what you're doing!

发布者Great article! More like these would be great GoKunming! There are a few people in Yunnan with a tremendous array of knowledge about history, geography, minorities, etc. that I believe a lot of people would be interested in. How about a 'Social Studies' section of GKM?? :) Having recently done a bike trip with Geogramatt, I was amazed at his level of local knowledge! (Sorry Matt for perhaps some unwanted attention!) GKM can be a bastion of 'new' historical information that's difficult to find anywhere. Just a thought ;)
On a side note, there's a great mountain/temple complex southeast of Dali, outside Midu. I believe it's called 水目寺 (Shuimusi, 'water eye temple'). There's tremendous history there but with my limited Chinese, I could only gather that it is/was one of the most popular temples of Yunnan in it's prime, if not the greatest—comparable to Shizhongshan in Shaxi, amongst others. An extremely peaceful mountain, the untouched pine forests around the complex area are home to some very interestingly formed 1000+ year old trees. It definitely deserves the respect given to it by locals and the old monks that once inhabited it as a zen mountain. If you have access to a car, it's worth the side trip from the tourist frenzy of Dali.
