I'd be pretty surprised if it is available in Kunming, but if anyone can tell me where to buy tempeh I'll be in your debt forever.

Thanks!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Running routes around Kunming

I never thought much of the Panlong River as a running option until I tried it out for the first time recently. I'd recommend starting around where the river meets Erhuan Bei Lu and heading north until you can't run anymore.

Pros: wide sidewalks and (yes, it's true) a few km of dirt trails to run on, very few cross streets, loads of trees and green space, very few people on the sidewalks, the river gets gradually nicer the further you go

Cons: some of the walkways that you can take along the riverside have 'hotspots' of human piss and shit (usually at the bottom of a stairwell), the river does stink a bit (but it's much better than it used to be and seems to be improving), crossing Linyu Lu is all kindsa mafan unless you're willing to hop the traffic barrier in the middle of the road

All in all, a nice run and a good way to explore northern Kunming, which is changing at a speed that is nothing short of insane.

@walter: Thanks for the suggestion.

@The Mask, congratulations and thanks for the kind words. BTW, we serve the English-speaking/literate community, which of course includes most foreigners, but also many locals!

In Chiang Mai now and must say the North Gate Jazz Co-op, just a 10 second walk to the east as you walk out the north gate of the old town, is highly recommended for anyone that likes good live music. Saw 15 musicians tear it up on Tuesday night... the audience wouldn't let them stop playing. Great fun.

Four stars for a great restaurant with friendly staff.

I give Tusheng Shiguan a fifth star for its goal of promoting environmentally sound food production.

My favorite Tengchong-style restaurant in Kunming. Their ersi and erkuai are trucked over from Tengchong and are the real deal — Kunming ersi and erkuai do not compare.

The restaurant itself is a bit jumbled, but there are a couple of tables outside in the courtyard that are nice to sit at when the weather's pleasant.

Don't believe them when they say they don't have lufu.

Tom and Jiajia have been baking up a storm lately. Thanks to them I have delicious sourdough bread to toast on the space heater in the office.

The Bircher muesli is probably the healthiest and most delicious breakfast around.

Pound for pound, one of the best little Western restaurants in China. 佳佳万岁

Just had gnocchi in mushroom sauce and a glass of wine for dinner on the balcony in mid-January. Awesome.
