I agree with Bucko, Metro has gone way way downhill. The foreign goods area has a lot of Chinese stuff taking up space. Other, foreign brands made in China, are disappearing.
Also, noticed a pretty good jump in prices about two weeks ago. Many items under 40 yuan went up 2 to 5 kuai. Also have noticed inflation by deflation where in you get less but pay 1-2 kuai more.
All large pizzas have disappeared. They have a " 9" " pizza in a white box that is now less than 8" and costs 5 kuai more. The other smaller pizzas have also shrunk.
The Metro own brand AKA is horrible quality.
Few choices in Kunming and less to be had at what was once a pretty good store.
The menu is on a laptop with lots of photos. Be brave!
I like "ding ding chow mian." On the laptop screen just above the ding ding chow mian is another noodle dish that is excellent. I like the naan stuff too, but as I go alone most of the time it is a bit much to eat.
La mein is good too. Small dishes will fill you up, medium is good for two, the large plates are doggy bag time. Also, check out the stuff for sale outside.
I get the 5 yuan yangrouchuan seems better than the 1 yuan. Also try the kaobaozi (mutton dumplingd).
Bus 67 stops almost in front of the place.
I met a cardiologist, Chinese guy, in Jinghong, who spoke excellent English. He said the "first affiliated hospital" has a cath lab and is the best bet in Kunming.
I think he was US trained. He does come to Kunming once a week ? to perform procedures.
During our discussion he pretty much said having a hearth attack in Kunming is bad news. After talking to some local doctors, I tend to agree. Every single one wanted me to trash the western meds and go on herbal stuff.
I go to Beijing 3 - 4 a year, Beijing Union Hospital, to see a cardio guy and buy meds. I can't get the rat poison in either 2, 3, or 6mg tabs here in Kunming.
Think this is US based. A Chinese friend, she teaches Chinese in the US, helps write some of the materials.

Good for quality, but pricey, hand tools.
Be aware they will push whatever they are selling. Some of the staff have no idea about the technical side of appliances.
I went there to buy a stove. I repeatedly told them I would be using bottled gas. They sold me a stove. When I went to my local gas guy, I learned there are at least three kinds of gas sold. Luckily, B&Q did not deliver as promised. I went back to the store and discovered they had sold me a stove they needed to be hooked up to the gas main. I got my money back.
The sales lady was almost in tears, 没有问题!I don't know if it a safety or design issue, but I would think B&Q would know and care.
Last week had an 8:45am flight.
Subway starts at 9am. I have no idea where to catch an airport express bus. Eight taxis refused to go to the airport. After almost an hour standing on Beijing Lu took a black taxi, this dude drives slower than my mother, 120 yuan.
Flight back was delayed so I learned the subway stops running at 6:10pm.
Getting a taxi back was easy, more taxis than customers. Taxi was 87 yuan including 1o yuan toll, airport to Beichen area. Yes, he took a longer route than necessary.
Kunming imagines being a gateway for international travelers. New airport but hard to get to and from it.
World Class Airport, NOT!
Tonight "Peacock", a performance by Yang Liping (杨丽萍), to begin her world tour, 8pm, 100-1680 yuan at Yunna Haigeng Auditorium.
Saw this lady perform at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, in California, in 1995. Quite a good and interesting show.
I'm going to try to make it.
Not so good. Kimchi had a very sour taste. Other food was nothing to brag about. I don't think I would go back.
This bus station is not located as indicated. It is further North!

Kunming dog registration required as of August 1, 2019
发布者@Liumingke1234: Unfortunately, banned dogs are banned. In the past banned dogs have been clubbed death on the street by police or who ever is tasked with removing them. You can find videos of this happening if you look for them.
This video is dated but the banned list is up to date.

发布者The BRI is genius. Projects are brought about by China conceiving a project, engineering it, gaining local political support, financing it, building it with Chinese labor and when the debt can't be serviced takes the natural resources used to collateralize the debt. In the case of dam in close proximity, China gets the energy as well. In response to criticism of China, Xi is now saying China will curtail what many countries say is predatory tactics.
More than a half century ago the US and Russia used this approach to extend their hegemony. One of the greatest dam projects, the Aswan Dam built by Russia, turned into gigantic problems.
