Forums > Living in Kunming > GoKunming Censor Censorship tends to lead to Self-censorship which I think is something very dangerous for a society and for the individual. It is possibly worse than government sanctioned censoring.
The thing about "Green Dam" is that nobody knows what exactly it can do and what it can be used for by the authorities. There was supposed to be a live update feature in it so who knows what kind of software "they" would be updating it with and what kind of information the program would send back.
I don't really see the connection between porn and god tbh. Porn is illegal here so I guess the CCP is right to try to regulate it (I assume it's a bit of a Don Quixote'ish task) while teaching religion and creationism in schools doesn't belong in a modern secular society. The denounciation of religion is one of the few things communism got absolutely right imho.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Can you recommend a golf course here? well,, at least that's cheaper. I still don't get why the greenfees here are so steep,, it's still China after all. Compared to St. Andrews Old Course which is one of the most famous and sought after courses in the world and their fee of 1200 rmb this sounds a little too government officials and businessmen like to me. I might splash out the 660 after all though,,
Forums > Living in Kunming > Youtube gone, now facebook? In the long run they are shooting themselves in the foot. It's a classic discipline in China after all.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Can you recommend a golf course here? My parents are coming to visit their marooned son in the end of this month and since my dad is a golf afficionado I'd love to hear if anyone can recommend a course near Kunming that has an affordable greenfee.
I would have loved to play the Lake Course down south but the fee is a staggering 3600 kuai for a round with me and my dad so that is out of the question. Any suggestions?
Forums > Living in Kunming > GoKunming Censor Just saw a long report on the riots on CCTV9. Report might be the wrong word,, it was basically one long queue of muslims (hui), government officials, overseas Chinese and anyone else they could drum up condemning the seperatists and telling everyone how peaceful Islam is while montages of happy people in Xinjiang and at the factory in Guangdong were displayed. Save that for the CCTV Chinese channels please.
Kunming to host 2009 China Open minigolf tournament
发布者"The 2009 China Open tournament will feature top minigolfers from more than 20 countries",, wow. Are they gonna sign autographs after the matches? I've always been a big fan of totally unknown people's autographs. I am a regular stalker at curling and bowls tourneys all over the world. How about a game of Surf Lifesaving: Combining the grace and beauty of watersports with the thrill of cardiac arrest since 1998.
That said the course does look rather mesmerizing,, I might give it a go at some point but I'm not gonna call myself an athlete for doing so.
Kunming media: Justice is hot
发布者,,and since that day noone ever heard from Ahmet again.
Kunming Carnival to celebrate girls, beer, cars
发布者I'm all for celebrating chicks and beer,, just my two cents.
Kunming-based project aims to make cycling history
发布者I don't usually complain excessively,, I think I even made a 10 Great things about Kunming post somewhere. I agree though,, I was off topic. This site could use a little debate on the other hand so I don't mind playing the devil's advocate. Dan,, how did you know that I hate spinach? spooky.
Kunming-based project aims to make cycling history
发布者You do realize you are actually trying to defend the (of all things) traffic in this fine city? what exactly are "the ideas within"? anyway,, not really looking for a fight. I was just pissed off coz I nearly got flattened yet again today while using a zebra crossing at green light. And don't get me wrong,, I like this place but that shouldn't disqualify me from occasionally being annoyed with potentially life threatening situations. It almost felt like a "You are not Chinese so you don't have the right to say anything"-moment for a second there. :-)
