Forums > Living in Kunming > GoKunming Censor Censorship tends to lead to Self-censorship which I think is something very dangerous for a society and for the individual. It is possibly worse than government sanctioned censoring.
The thing about "Green Dam" is that nobody knows what exactly it can do and what it can be used for by the authorities. There was supposed to be a live update feature in it so who knows what kind of software "they" would be updating it with and what kind of information the program would send back.
I don't really see the connection between porn and god tbh. Porn is illegal here so I guess the CCP is right to try to regulate it (I assume it's a bit of a Don Quixote'ish task) while teaching religion and creationism in schools doesn't belong in a modern secular society. The denounciation of religion is one of the few things communism got absolutely right imho.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Can you recommend a golf course here? well,, at least that's cheaper. I still don't get why the greenfees here are so steep,, it's still China after all. Compared to St. Andrews Old Course which is one of the most famous and sought after courses in the world and their fee of 1200 rmb this sounds a little too government officials and businessmen like to me. I might splash out the 660 after all though,,
Forums > Living in Kunming > Youtube gone, now facebook? In the long run they are shooting themselves in the foot. It's a classic discipline in China after all.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Can you recommend a golf course here? My parents are coming to visit their marooned son in the end of this month and since my dad is a golf afficionado I'd love to hear if anyone can recommend a course near Kunming that has an affordable greenfee.
I would have loved to play the Lake Course down south but the fee is a staggering 3600 kuai for a round with me and my dad so that is out of the question. Any suggestions?
Forums > Living in Kunming > GoKunming Censor Just saw a long report on the riots on CCTV9. Report might be the wrong word,, it was basically one long queue of muslims (hui), government officials, overseas Chinese and anyone else they could drum up condemning the seperatists and telling everyone how peaceful Islam is while montages of happy people in Xinjiang and at the factory in Guangdong were displayed. Save that for the CCTV Chinese channels please.

Lijiang blaze destroys old town businesses
发布者Sounds like a job well done containing it but I do wonder why the fire marshal and the relevant authorities haven't addressed the narrow streets issue previously. There are plenty different types of light/narrow fire engines specifically built for allowing access to such places, and the cost compared to losing Lijiang's old town in the worst case scenario (and the loss of tourist revenue) is negligible. Sadly, in China it is tradition that things have to get really, really bad before they get better.
Official suspended after epic Kunming airport tantrum
发布者",,so I sincerely apologize (after my company suspended me, threatened to fire me and ordered me to apologize). I am willing to compensate."
A stiff apology is a second insult.
