I was discussing advanced students preparing to go to college abroad.
My wife and I have both have had positive experiences doing private tutoring for students who are going abroad to college. Most have opted out of studying for GaoKao and concentrate strictly on English - both oral and written.
However, it does take a while to build a clientele and usually takes place in interaction with higher-educated professional parents.
Good Luck
By the way - - we never fall back on Chinese unless it is a totally, totally difficult situation. Everything MUST be done in English.
Hi Nancy
Would love to discuss Toastmasters but I am currently in San Diego.
Just go to a meeting and discuss with anyone - - or contact Alan Page (although he is Canadian, he still speaks English OK!!)
Good Luck - - and let us know how you make out.
Cheers - - JJ
I'm not Chinese (but my wife is). Many of our Chinese friends have really improved their advanced English through Toastmasters (also improves speaking skills). Meets weekly at various locations. Check it out.
