Hmmm. Thanks Ross. My girlfriend could probably do that, but not sure if I can! I'll check in with Aluo when I get there.
Thank you

From reading this forum, it seems possible to get from north Nu River over the mountains to Shangrila. Looking at Google Earth, the terrain looks tricky to say the least. Are there roads / tracks? Is this trek for experienced athletic hikers or can moderately fit inexperienced hikers make it?
Are there villages along the way? How many days?
Is there a bar in Kunming that would be good to get some Nu River info, meet hikers?
Would appreciate all tips, thank you.

Ma Huang, the owner of Delamu, has been in Binzhongluo for 8 years and has trekked and driven all over the place. He has scores of local stories and is a font of local info. If for nothing else, he is worth the visit.
The teahouse is full of local bits and pieces, and is a comfy place to drink one of his carefully selected teas of an afternoon. See if you can get invited for dinner - he likes to put house guests together - as his wife is a great cook and his truffle infused liquor is delicious.
The aim of Yudong might well be upscale, but in fact the place is pretty rundown. Having said that the boss was helpful - he got a bus driver friend to buy our advance Liuku-Kunming return tickets for us, there was 24 hour hot water, free wifi in the room, and the room was only 70Y. If you can put up with a slightly dingy bathroom and slightly haphazard room cleaning, it's an ok deal
