Down in Xishangbanna right now. The slow boat stopped in 2006. You can get a speed boat but it's 800 RMB. A friend said that Jing Hong/Chiang Mai flight was gone, that if you wanted to fly you must go to Kunming.
January 7 2007 Came here because Lonely Planet said this was a good place to go trekking. Asked around and nobody seems to know how to get into the first growth forest. I don't want to travel back to Jing Hong, so anybody been trekking in this area? It's pretty near Laos. All I've seen are rubber plantations and rice fields which is pleasant but if there's anybody who does trekking here let me know.

I"m wondering if there are Chinese bank cards that can be used in Thailand and therefore avoiding the necessity of carrying cash. I don't like travelers checks, money belts or carrying large amounts of cash. I would like to avoid changing currencies the few amounts of times possible. Maybe one transfer from RMB to bhat, rather than RMB to Dollars to bhat.
