Booked a decent room and got upgraded for free to a suite on the club floor. Room had an amazing bathtub with a view of the whole city, plus a sitting room and a separate bedroom with nice views as well. I'd say the service and décor in general were just ok, but the free cocktail hour and buffet breakfast that were included made it an above average experience.

I agree the with other reviews. Pricing like in Switzerland but boring food. The worst were the bar the cocktails are a joke Bacardi Breezer tastes more delicious.

Style wise, it's just another Sofitel.
The food is very average, same like what you get everywhere else around Kunming.
However, the prices are enormous - even compared to Europe. Sofitel Kunming charges more for a coffee than what Sofitel in Luxembourg, Istanbul or other large cities charge.
In addition, they have the audacity to charge a service charge on top of the advertised price.

It took me a while to cool my mood as the air conditioning is too weak as well.
Needless to say, you won't ever see me there again. If you want a nice western hotel in Kunming, go to the Intercontinental down at Dianchi.

Sofitel is easily one of Kunming's top hotels now, featuring one of the best locations, in between the city center and the popular Dianchi Lake area.

The views from any of its rooms, as well as the buffet restaurant are quite stunning, offering previously unseen panoramas over the whole of Kunming.

There's a bar on the 50th floor, although currently it still has some work to do to be able to compare itself with similar 'skybars' in Shanghai or Beijing.

Too bourgeois.
