Don't bother looking for skiing in Yunnan or rest of China. If it exists, it will be a small walled off section and cost twice as much as Europe USA Japan. Same for scuba diving. Come back in fifteen years.

No chance for ski-fun in Yunnan. You're more likely to find sand-dunes.

The closest place is Chendu but is very exclusive, far from the city and costs you an arm and a leg. (money, not literally)

The best place to go is north / North-East of Beijing (famous for wintersports among the Chinese). Plane tickets aren't that expensive in China luckily. But it's closer to Korea than to Kunming hahaha.

Shangri-la had/has a ski hill, but as far as I know, it hasn't been open the last few years. As a mountain guide, perhaps you're interested in some back-country skiing. I think there are some places around Shangri-la that could work in the right season, accessible only by hiking of course. Maybe next year we can have some chance to explore.

Actually, @AlexKMG, there are places to ski in China that are more than walled off sections.

There's a mountain in china which is about 7000m high and you can climb it and then ski or snowboard down. It's not a technical climb so anyone can do it if they're fit enough and acclimatised. I cant remember the name of it but you should be able to google it as it's quite popular. Possibly in Xinjiang region but im not sure.
