I was riding along Dianchi Rd, and ended up behind a bus as it was just about to pull out in front of me. I was expecting the usual black gasping smoke to spew from it, but instead a nice warm gentle breeze washed over me.
Is there hope that every new bus Kunming buys will be a compressed natural gas one?
I have a lot of compressed natural gas - especially when I eat beans!
Did you just dream this Alex? We can only hope!
It might be a dream. Cause I have been looking at every newish looking bus and so far, no other has the letters CNG on the back. I guess it makes sense any CNG bus would be on Dianchi Rd to show off how green and progressive KM buses are for the party chiefs coming to town.
Interesting enough, next door backward tier 2 capital Guiyang has plenty of these CNG buses.

If you can compress your own natural gas, I'm impressed. So impressed I'll be staying far far away :)
Many of Kunmings new buses are Hybrids. Have ridden several of newer versions and they seem to be electric driven and are very quiet except if you sit in back when the diesel generators? kick in.
They are real.
There is a filling station at Qiancheng Lu opposite the bus station near the Walmart there (South Kunming).
The filling station has mobile tanks (4 tanks fitted on a trailer with is lifted up on one side to get the gas out).
With the supply of gas from Myanmar soon to arrive I expect more and more gas powered vehicles (There are taxis on CNG as well).
