The oldest language in Europe? Are you from Lithuania?
How exactly do you "fight your life" to keep that language alive? I'm really curios...

Of course when people can't read or write it's due to their lack of learning the language in written form. My point was it is much easier to get by as iliterate in China than it is in most [many] Western countries.

Of course we have groups back home that can't read or write and they will try to hide it for as long as they can out of shame etc.
But it's much harder to get by compared to China. Because you can overrule the lack of documents and writing by using 'higher powers'= guanxi.

I disagree though, language is just a tool [and not even a good one] becasue humans are to goddamn dumb, to use other senses and abilities, making you doubt the superiority of the human race, for the ones that don't already know better.

If the fact that we are the only species, that systematically destroys their own habitat. Even Viruses won't do that, we are more stupid than viruses,......yeeeeeeiiiii! lol

1.- The decay of the languages. I don't have much to say to what you said. It is actually true that i cant do that i have done... but it is a fact that there are many languages dying out and it is predict to get even worse soon.

2.- Demanding some skills of international communication could get you to live in a bubble. If you demand this, there will be no need for a foreigner to learn the Kunming hua. No need = die out.
I met a chinese girl two days ago, she could speak a word of Tibetan (with Tibetan origins) and she wanted to learn english... ok, i guess this is what we call development. Anyway, i found this blog interesting.

1.- Euskara :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxy3KjpHci4
It is uncertain whether it is or not the oldest language in Europe. But actually it is a good candidate for that. Many mountains, rivers, valleys in Europe are called with a Basque based name. Basque or the family language it comes from which hasnt been related yet.

2.- There is no need to know Euskara to live in the Basque Country. I have lived in a country with an notorius diglosia and Spanish(or french) being the second most spoken language in the world has lots of influence.

Political issue, globalization, inmigration... oh well...

I am aware that there is a movement to get chinese minority languages documented (like yi language in south of sichuan and all over yunnan)... just hope chinese goverment doesnt disturb too much into this, otherwise minority languages will only remain as folklorikal dances like the ones you can see in the green lake. Mabye a couple of other folklorikal stuff also be added to the dances...

Basque language now lives a moment where there are many agents trying to reinforce the language... i believe that learning the local language should be more important than just a hobbie.

but anyway maybe this is only my point of view.

if anyone can understand spanish, this video is fucking weacked! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovIl5FSDy4k

Dudeson: language is the tool that allows us to reason. Dishonesty destroys the ability to reason and cooperate.

We are not just the species that, far beyond the capabilities of any other, destroys its own habitat and that of other species, we are also the one that creates its own habitat and that of other species. Because of our uniqueness, evolutionary theory really can't predict the results, so it behooves us to take the task seriously - and not just for the future, but for fully-human, fully-conscious living in the present as well. Or we can persist in sneaking about in mutual distrust and remaining blind to and suspicious of what each other knows, sees, etc.

I don't think that language is the key to reason but a conscious mind and mental balance. Language is just one form of communication and it's the most inefficient of all possible 'chanels'.

I think we re hijacking here, but to comment your post.
Your thoughts about the human race are very noble and I'd wish reality would be as noble, as your ideas, but it doesn't seem that way.
We create a habitat for us there I agree with you. But we don't create habitats for others we force them into ours, even with violence, and not only if we have to.

Nor do I think we are unique, we are just some animals that lost their fur and we are far from being the superior race. If to rule the planet is superior than the dinosaurs were doing a much better job, and we are facing the same fate, with the difference that we may create our own astoroid impact like desasters.

If you look into the animal kingdom, you will see that there are creatures that outsmart us in literally everything. They are much more noble than us becasue they don't have all the flaws and moral BS e.g. greed, jealousy, lack of communication skills, lies, -that humans use to proudly differenciate themselves from the 'lower beings'.

Proving how dumb we humans really are....and it's hilarious!
Although:
I agree that the majority of humans mean well and are of generally good will. But nature and the universe won't care about good will.
