Hi,
I cant get my WiFi router set up...
Our internet stopped working three weeks ago. We called China Mobile they came out to look at it, said there was no problem with the interent (he hooked my mac up via PPoE) and said it must be the wireless router which is not his responsibility and left after being a total a**hole to my housemate.
So we bought another one. A friend set it up for us with user/pass etc, but it still won't work. When its hooked up I get the AirPort connected icon and it says everything is working fine but I still cant get online.
A few friends have tried but couldn't get it working.
Can anyone help please!? Or is there anywhere I can call to send someone out for a fee?
My no is 15887098873
Cheers.
That it shows connected is just the connection from router to your AirPort...
It could be a problem with automatic IP addressing, which a lot of routers can't reach at the first time.
Check your routers IP (most likely 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 / lot of routers have their IP address printed on the backside) and after that check your Notebooks IP (have to be in the same subnet with the router / means 192.168.2.XXX or 192.168.1.XXX).
For the last 3 digits i would recommend you try a number from 20 to 60 and if it ask for gateway address you also type the IP from your router.
Better to do the router configuration over cabel, not wireless!
Good luck...
Make sure that your connection cable from your modem to your wifi router is connected to the 'blue' input. It says 'wan'. There are 4 usually plus one 'blue' one.
But why do I have to change my laptops IP? Will everyone in the house have to change their laptops IP? and their phones?
The previous wifi router just worked, i didnt have to do anything. until it mysteriously stopped working!
I did say most likely the router will have problems giving your notebook a IP address if its the first time you set it up. So, in order to set it up properly do manually give an IP at first and check DHCP setting in your routers setup.
DHCP is the service which will give out IP addresses automatically to all the machines in your home.
Open your browser, check 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 and you will come to your routers setup. What kind of router is it? (type)
Im trying the old one now as I just went and topped up the account incase that was the problem.
Its a TP-LINK with an IP 192.168.1.1
My laptops IP is 192.168.1.111, I tried changing it to 192.168.1.50 but it didnt help.
The routers page is in chinese but I found the DHCP start and end setting which are 192.168.1.110 to 192.168.1.199
But i found another page with this information:
ID MAC地址 IP地址 绑定 配置
1 00-25-D3-79-34-49 192.168.1.100 编辑 删除
2 00-26-B0-A9-34-25 192.168.1.102 编辑 删除
Not sure what this is...
If you get totally stuck. I use a local guy. Reliable, and fixed price. Give me a PM and I will give you his number.
The MAC-addresses are bind to a specific machine, with this setting you can make sure that just the machines you seeing there have access to the net.
Since the DHCP start address is 192.168.1.110 the machines in the MAC-settings can't access the router.
With 192.168.1.50 you not will have access, because the DHCP starts at 192.168.1.110.
Try to change the start setting to 192.168.1.100 and your notebook IP to 192.168.1.116 and see how this goes.
ok i tried that and now im totally stuck. tigertiger ive PMd u.
If it suddenly stops working, don't eliminate the possibility that your router is simply broken.
Questions:
A. Can you connect if you are physically connected to the router (with LAN cable)?
B. Can other devices connect to the router?
Otherwise, do the following through the router page:
1 are any MAC or IP addresses banned from accessing the internet (on TP-Link firmware this is very difficult to find with a lot of double negatives so I sometimes don't get it either)
2 change the Wireless signal channel, there may be too many interfering ones around, it's kind of unlikely but I've had one case where this worked
Or try this:
1 Delete the network on your Mac (make it forget the wireless network) and set it up again. It has happened to me that this worked on a Mac.
By the way you will have access with .50, because DHCP will only automatically assign from .110 doesn't mean you can't set a static IP and connect.
