Hello!
I am currently an American student in Kunming on a tourist visa. When my school went to apply for the student visa for me, it was told that a criminal record check was required. I have one (processed while applying to teach English in Korea), however it is a year old. Does anyone else have any experience with this situation?
Thank you!

Wow, I guess I was lucky. I got my student visa about three weeks ago. I didn't realise this was need for a student visa. I thought it was only for working visas.

As a student? Try a different school. Sounds like someone at the school may have got it wrong, although they will never admint it.
Yes this does sound like a strange requirement for a student visa. Incidentally, on the other thread there is a link that suggests the criminal records check may no longer be required after September, but let's wait and see if that's going to be the case. In any case, I had no problems obtaining my record by applying online and waiting for it in the mail, was a little bit of an inconvenience but not a major nuisance.

Could you tell us which school was that?
Criminal Background Check - Has anyone actually completed this yet? I would like to hear from anyone who has already done this and submitted it with a visa application.
Tom69 - can you please attach the link where you applied for this online and share it with the rest of us. Also, can you please tell us what country you are from?
Can this entire process be completed from China - or is there a need to return to the US?
