Avocados. Since about February with the Mexico-China free trade agreement, Mexican medium avocados are around 480rmb for a box of 30. About 25rmb per kg on the east coast wholesale market with per piece retail pricing up through distribution. In South Yunnan, Myanmar large avocados are 8 to 10rmb each. There is a farm in Yunnan that grows avocados too. I am told that the Mexican ones taste the best. These also usually are certified by the USDA.
Anyone know if there any Chinese dishes that makes use of avocados? Or alternately, what are your Chinese friends reaction after trying guacamole and chips?
I am chinese and I was born in the middle of china and grown up in the south. but I currently don't know any chinese dish made by avocados. but I love guacamole and chips and salad with avocados. I live on the top of hill of jianshelu(yunshangcheng xiaoqu) and the supermarket downstair sells mexican avocados as 76.00/kg for quite few months. but my boyfriend and I are probably the only ones buying it. so they probably throw A LOT! please someone live around come and save some avocados. they are quite expensive and compares to the market around still cheaper. and only 10 minutes from wenhuaxiang and 5 minutes from banzhucuiyuan.
My (Chinese) wife knew about avocados, but had not eaten them until we made guacamole for fajitas last year. She really liked it and now frequently makes guacamole even if not doing tex-mex. She can eat it with potatoes or anything.
And she did pot one seed just for one, it's grown about foot high indoors.
@AlexKMG From reading other stuff looks like quite a fair bit of luck going to be needed :)
Avocados in China:
Considering how big the avocado seed is, there should be a bean stalk to the clouds hiding inside. Maybe I'll pot one in coffee grounds and water it with leftover tea. I hope it likes listening to bowie.
