Hi,
I was just reading an article about an attack on the Mekong Cafe in Jinghong back in April, and around that time also another attack on the owner of the excellent Tianwangshu bakery, both in Jinghong. Last year in March I visited both businesses and found the food to be very good as well as the atmosphere.
I was shocked to read about these attacks and was wondering if anyone had any news (hopefully positive) that both business are up and running as normal?

Do you mean Wangtianshu Bakery?
What do you mean "attack"?
Could be related to local mafia. If so the places are probably under new management.
The owner of Wangtianshu bakery (sorry about the wrong word order in my OP), a Dutch guy, was attacked and robbed by a thug around 3am back in April for no apparent reason.
Robbery seems like a reason.
@Dazzer, yes but to me two attacks on expat/foreigner related businesses in the same month I think, in a town with only 3-4 expat oriented businesses to me sounds like something sinister is going on unless it's really just a coincidence. Anyway, I've always felt safe in China, whether in Kunming, Jinghong, Shangri-la, Guangzhou, Shanghai or wherever so I hope this is not the start of a disturbing trend.
I wish these affected businesses (and owners) the best of luck and if they are still running, I will be visiting on my next trip down to Banna (which will likely be on my way to/from Laos or Thailand).
Wangtianshu now became Italian Deli and is located on the Mekong Cafe premises.
Perhaps expats are seen to be a better option for carrying valuable worth robbing. Especially as one attack was 3 am. Expats and people in suits in targets for roberry in other cities as well. If you fight back you are also likely to get beaten. It may even be the same thief who got a good haul the first time. Two attacks is not enough to imply a pattern for something more sinister.
@bluppfisk, oh that's good to know regarding Wangtianshu, but I am wondering what happened to the old location? I really liked that area for some reason. And what do you mean by "located on the Mekong Cafe premises" do you mean next door? Because the Mekong Cafe isn't that big so I hardly see there being room to open a second business inside the first one.
