@blue
That article was a research report from different universities around the world, published in a lot of scientific magazines.
And to use the examples of a few people that live well being vegan or vegetarian, is like comparing that there are people living healthy and happy being addicted to heroin (I know a bold compare but trying to make a point).
Also I am not saying that it is unhealthy to be vegan but you rely on supplements (a third party) that opens the possibility for bad quality products and produced by companies that are profit based and don't care about the same things that vegans do.
I am a pescetarian and eat meat if it is going to be wasted.
I have been a vegetarian for about 13 years until (and after my health declined) doctor recommended a change in diet, for a variety of deficiencies, starting from the notorious protein and V-B12, so it is not just BS.
I felt much better after going back to the current diet. Plus the heavy feeling in your belly after eating meat is just about habit, it has nothing to do with quality or how bad or good it is. IF you want to experiment yourself....try a carrot, onion, eggplant or other dense or or high fibre fruits and veggies. Eat them every day and you won't feel a thing.
There is off the shelf diet everybody should figure out their own way of eating and preparing food.
And I am saying again all food sources are dirty and tainted so it doesn't matter and useless to bring in the veggies are healthier, in that case it becomes a battle of the chemicals used in each food category.
There is a new (or old) scare if you thing eating vaggies are good for the planet "soild erosion' . the soild is losing it's meinerals and nutrition becasue the unnatural soqing cycles and overfertilizing the soild to the point where it's just dead.
This argument is endless and this is what I am trying to say. There is no perfect way. If you want to be vegan or eating a ton of meat everyday?....Enjoy and stay healthy.
Yep, is a mystery how more than 500 millions of indians can survive on a vegetarian diet.
Handmade (sorry, italian) fresh pasta has eggs (proteins, vitamins..and other "things"..)
I think is more interesting to talk about the causes of the choice (blood type, dna, environment where you grow up / culture / brainwashing, karma, awareness)
Oh about my god...
I go with the Bad Kennedy's poetic song (I think it was them)
"God is dead" ...hehe
I believe in a certain power or force an entity of some sort but I am not cruel and vengeful enough to believe in on of those personified gods that gives out rewards and punishements so we can please him or her.
I like quality, so I got my god custom made...lol
@blue.
You don't have to necessarily die to be unhealthy. Also life and health is not just food related also about exercise and environmental factors and medical care.
And India is not exactly on top the list. lifeexpectancy, overall health, and healthy diet (vegetarian or not).
I am not trying to bring you down or whatnot. I have been a vegetarian for a long time and I liked it until I started to feel bad and sick and I still eat a primarily vegetarian diet but I don't think it is necessarily the answer to all food/health issues, quite not so!
Dudeson, I'd be curious to know more about what health concerns you were having on a vegetarian diet, if it's not too personal.
@ Magnifico,
Nope...no problem.
I felt dizzy and constant lack of energy.
I had a physically and mentally demanding job so I saw a few docs
-after I collapsed one time on the job-,and they took blood and urin samples. It is a (long) while back but I remember they said my urin sample and my blood test showed that my kindney was troubled, continuous low blood sugar (Which could result in diabetes, the mild kind), anemia, fatigues, B-12 and protein deficiency. In short I felt weak around the clock. The docs asked me if I was vegetarian for religious reasons, which I nayed. They told me to add meat/fish back to my diet for 2 week and see how I do after that. I tried and I was fine, the test results as well.
It wasn't life threatening or anything but the docs advised me to go back on a pro meat/fish diet.
thanks for sharing.
i was considering going vegetarian for a while, then i came across the book 'the vegetarian myth'. the author was vegetarian for many years and developed some serious health conditions, so she reverted back to eating meat. and i think she also makes the argument in the book that not eating meat is not better for the environment, but just skimmed over it.
Yeah I agree,
I think each and every individuals diet should be tested according to how one feels. For a while the veggy thing worked for me, then i reversed it and I still eat it moderately but I feel much better.
It is true that not eating meat isn't better for the environment, it goes for any food category I think personally it is more about the production and locations. Meat and Fish farms, uni-crop farming is the bigger problem rather than what we eat.
Hundreds or thousands of years ago, if we would tell them our issue here they would probably raise their eyebrow or burst out laughing.
But to go vegetarian for a litle while or vegetarian fasting isn't a bad idea.
In general I advise to not eat processed food, little sodium and variety....that is what my doctor said. He joked aying :"eat so broad that the stomach does't even know what hit him and it'll be a happy healthy stomach."
yep Dudeson, your experience is the same of one my best friend. So why I tried to introduce the topic about, especially, the blood type related to the body's need, different from person to person.
The indian example is one, the health of many "american" burgers-lovers could be another, on the other side of the same coin.
Well..my example is also not so correct cause in the McDonald's, KFC politics...it's not just about animals..is about pollution of food plus the use of addictives..
and talking about pesticides (veggies or animal's feeding), genetic manipulations, economic interests and so on.....like you said...it's a discussion that never ends.
But about what the body need...well in my opinion there are many bullshits around, ultra generalized.
Magnifico, I'd be curious about the argument on "not eating meat is not better than eating meat, for the Planet"
thanks,
