So you can walk into a China Post office and they can book and issue train tickets just like the 121 office did? It sounds like that was your experience. I'm guessing not every China Post can do this?

Yes, exactly. Can't speak for every Post Office but the small one opposite Robert's School didn't blink when I asked them. Seemed easy.
At least some post offices have signs saying they book tickets.
