Danger, danger! High voltage!
it could easily have been a refurbished or fake iphone...
It could also easily have been a fake story planted in Weibo to discredit Apple at a time when China's challenger brands are ready to make serious waves in the mobile phone market.
After all, we've already seen the outrage, yes OUTRAGE, in the Chinese media over complaints about Apple's warranty and repair policies. This on the heels of food scandals in which Chinese (and at least one foreign subsidiary) companies knowingly put toxic chemicals into infant formula.
I'm not sure I blame Reuters for running the story, but all it says is that Apple said that it is investigating allegations that a woman died after answering her iPhone. It doesn't even say that it's been proven that a woman died after answering her iPhone. Furthermore, even if it is proven true that she died of a shock, it's not yet clear it's the phone that's the source of the shock. The only two sources in this story are a Weibo tweet and a statement from Apple.
In summation, it's an extremely flimsy news story that could have economic/political motivations behind it. Until we learn more, is it worth discussing?
They are probably cross because the US sought to block Huawei and ZTE on their market after speculating that their devices were able to spy on their people.
