anyone know of any dongbei style restaurants? checked the forums/listings and all they have is a place with a 0 star review from 2010 and one that links to a 404 (page not found)! i know the place on the south side of Linyu Lu... just fancied a change. thanks.
we dongbei ren like home cooking style and places serving the food tend to act low. ask dongbei ren around u or taxi drivers.
I'm sorry, but why would anyone want to eat North China food?
@ Steve - thanks.
@ mPRin - guo ba rou. not sure if that pinyin is correct but try it - can't miss it. also... pancakes, meat and potatoes. great range of 'winter' vegetables too (as the British might call them). I know the quality of NE food varies a lot.
Why would anyone want French, Italian, Cantonese, Sichuan, Burmese etc. etc.?
Why not?
Because Dongbei food is overcooked, excessively oily, invariably bland, and has the texture of congealed phlegm.
But I don't mean to be pissy. Dongbei would be quite nice if they imported their food and cooking techniques from Yunnan.
There is a Kaifeng style restaurant in Beichen and one on 豆腐厂巷. Pretty close to dongbei food. Tasty and cheap too.
I like phlegm. Especially those chewy balls you can hack up.
thanks for the suggestion Alex.
as is often the case recently, this thread has degraded into a debate on the pro's and con's of dongbei food - way off topic. Admin, please lock this thread. I will no longer be contributing to or following it.
