What happens if you own a big dog before the crack down? Surely they can't just take the dog from you?
This is really terrifying, I am wanting to stay in China but in order to do that I need to go back to the US to bring my white lab mix over here. Pretty sure shes half white shepherd because shes very slim and pure white. She is about 52 pounds and a petite girl, I planned to go through Korea air so I can avoid quarantine. Would she be safe from confiscation? Where can I access the posters of banned dogs so I can make sure she doesnt look like them? I live on wenlinjie and I see tons of large dogs with their owners, all friendly and well behaved and kept secured on leashes. If something happened to her Id never live it down. Shes also a service animal trained to bring me my medication.
Don't bring your dog to China. Even if they didn't deem the dog illegal and take it, your dog won't like China. I had a doberman and now she in the USA (born in China). It cost me $5000 USD to get her out of China and even then the scumbag Chinese company that did relocation picked the cheapest and longest route for my sweetheart. She was in her crate for 36 hours... The relocation company told us that in China if the dog escapes in the Chinese airport or Customs they will just shoot it, or atleast they are in their rights to.
As far as living in China... it's dirty and your dog will get sick more often than in your country... there is human feces almost everywhere (dogs typically love human feces). Coccidiosis is a huge problem too... and when you dog get's it they will most likely have a mild case of it for years and years.
The other problem is you are surrounded by tons of other dogs, many are abused and dangerous and many of the owners are total trash. A month before we got out of China (i was living in Kunming for 10 years) we were attacked by a Germand Shepherd owned by a tiny woman who could not control her vicious dog. My doberman had huge gashes that need both internal and external stitches and I had puncture wounds and scars. The owner whose dog has killed other dogs and bitten several others and people as well was beyond reproach since her husband is a bigwig in the military. When we demanded they take responsibility they refused and when we called the police they told us they could do nothing and advised us not to pursue it since these people were untouchable. We got no justice for the incredible amount of pain we went through and now my dog will bark at other dogs whenever she is on the leash since we were attacked on the leash. It's going to cost thousands of more dollars in training to get her where she needs to be.
Don't do that to you dog!!!
Well maybe this is more of an issue farther from wenlinjie. I wouldnt dare take her away from this area, but it seems that this side of town is very safe for a dog in terms of worrying about one of us being harmed by an unleashed animal. All of the large dogs i have seen after living here for 3 months are leashed and well trained. Also, when traveling back to China from the US, i would be on the same flights as her. Wouldnt that make a difference? My main concern is her being confiscated as she is a lab mix and I havent established if she could potentially be labelled a 'dangerous' breed. It just seems hard to believe since I constantly see well trained dogs here that are on the banned list...itd be a massive undertaking for the kunming police to try to eradicate them and I dont see it possible for them to seriously try starting that endevour as they are already pretty frickin lazy.
Hi,
Sounds like misery for your dog. Not feeling safe to leave a certain area... I am sure you could keep her alive, but the quality of life is not so good. Have you considered the costs of flying her back and forth. Leaving with my 80 pound dobie and her crate was 33,000 RMB in total from Kunming to LAX.
I moved away largely because of the welfare of my dog. Now she roams the wilds of Central Oregon off leash every day!
Did you read this thread?

I saw that thread, yes. I realize china isnt perfectly safe, no place is. And yes I have considered the costs. Since shes an american dog it will cost a lot less to transport her if I take the right airlines. The quality of life in the US isnt much better than here, there are barely any jobs and the police are so strict that I fear them more than any other person.
I completely disagree with you about quality of life between Kunming and the USA. I lived in China for 10 years and left a few months ago... quality of life in Central Oregon (Bend) is 10 times better than China. Clean air, food and water. Very safe and people are friendly. Where in the US do/did you live?
Did any of you guys see the news recently where the cops shot a guys Rottweiler in America for no reason. Poor Max.. RIP.
I'll take my chances in the USA.
