Friends: I need your input. I have 4 kids (13 yrs to 7 yrs), and we are looking to move to KMG. I was wondering what kind of activities there are for kids in KMG. For example, are there sports leagues (basketball, soccer, American football, etc).

Any music programs or creative arts programs?

How about dance programs?

Any feedback with some detail would be helpful.

Compared to cities like Shanghai and Beijing, with the large international schools, there are few opportunities for kids activities involving fun.
There are lots of classes however, music, art, dance, martial arts. These classes are often extra curricular STUDY with private tutors. Often working towards certificates (e.g. piano) or awards that will give parents bragging rights.

However, there is an artist who does painting classes by Dianchi Lake, but this is about 12km from downtown. There was also an expat running a music school in Beichen (about 6km north of downtown), I assume they will have a more acceptable teaching philosophy.
Other than that there are loads of Chinese math teachers out there, and other tutors who use a 1m ruler for encouragement.
