Where to purchase/have a qipao made?

Anyone have any luck with a local shop/tailor making nice qipaos? Good quality silk, nice finishes, etc. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

My wife had a few (four) made at two different shops on Beijing Rd, east side, just south of Tudong Rd (just past one street south).

Quality at both shops was excellent. Cost (to me) was quite reasonable, and about half that of another place.

Of course the price will depend on the style and fabric you choose. Last fall my wife had two dresses made. 2,000 yuan total price. One was 800 and the other 1,200. You would think the full length dress was more expensive than the one to the knee, but it was the other way around because of the material.

At both shops, everything you see in the "showroom" is just to let you see the styles and fabrics. They'll make whatever you want. I even had a tuxedo made there!

Thanks! Sounds great...we are pretty new in town and don't speak much Chinese, but we will try to find the place. Any other markings on the outside that might help us identify the place? Thank you!

I don't speak any Chinese at all, so I can't comment on markings. You might wish to take a Chinese speaking friend with you. As for identifying the shops, simply walk south on Beijing Rd from Tudong Rd. one full block. Just past the next little intersection you'll find the two shops next door to each other on the east side. Lot's of dresses on display in both.
