PSB Visa Checklist

Hi all,
I need to get a tourist visa/visa extension at the PSB. The following is what I understand I need. Am I missing anything? Sorry — I do not read Chinese well, so their website is a bit confusing for me.

1. Passport
2. Copy of passport (black and white is ok, not color)
3. Police registration certificate.
4. Copy of police registration certificate.
5. Work contract.
6. Health check booklet.
7. Passport photos of myself.

Am I missing anything? Also, can my passport copies indeed be black and white? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I know that. My situation is that my work visa/residence permit is expiring, and my new job does not have enough time to get me a new work visa. So they told me to get a tourist visa to fill in the gap, then they will get me a new work visa. Do you know what I will need, and what I should say, at the PSB? Thanks.

I am pretty sure that once you convert to an 'L' visa, you need to do a border run to get your 'Z' again.

A letter from your employer or contract may actually complicate things. It may cause your 'L' visa app to get bounced. Make sure that the contract has a future start date.

Ask the new employer if they have started the paperwork for your FE status. If they have, they should accompany you to the PSB with evidence of this. There may be some bending of the rules that can be done. However, if they have not started the process I would not be impressed, and would think about my future with that employer.

I would also make sure that the new employer is willing to pay for the border run.

sounds a bit strange that your new employee doesn't have time to do their job. Once you are on your L visa then you will need to leave mainland China to get your Z entry visa that you convert to the residence permit.

Not sure what the rules are today, but in 2008, it was necessary to return to your home country to get the Z visa.

I would walk away from this employer. You are going to have a lot of problems. Without a residence permit and permission to work, you cannot have an employment contract. You have no legal protection and your employer can do as he pleases. You are a criminal subject to fines, imprisonment, and, deportation.

On one fine payday, you're gonna hear, "Sorry, we are so busy we don't have time for your salary again this month."

Why do this to yourself?

Thanks everyone for the information. Let me clarify. My current employer is going to get me a work visa, along with a contract. The problem is that my last job was being difficult, refusing to give my current employer some paperwork that I needed for a new work visa.

So, my current employer said to get a tourist visa just temporarily, while they start over on a fresh, new work visa for me.

Yes, I will have to leave the country to get a new work visa. But what I am asking about is the tourist visa that I need to get to "fill in the gap" so to speak.

You have a bit of a problem. I am guessing that one of the things the old employer won't give you is the release letter. Releasing your from your old contract.
There was a new regulation last year, if you break a contract there can be problems/consequences. There is a useful article here www.echinacities.com/[...] . It might be of help.
