Hello,
I need to send an envelope to Beijing. It will be filled with passports etc. Can anyone recommend a mail service that is secure and fast? I see that FedEx doesn't have an office here, what about some of the other international giants? Has anyone sent some sensitive materials using mail here in Kunming? Thanks so much.
Mike

Fedex does have an office in Kunming even if not listed on the Fedex website. We have an account with them. Just call up their service line. DHL also has an office here. UPS does not.
However, EMS is ok for domestic post. EMS is the courier service run by China Post. If you send passports to an embassy or consulate by Fedex or DHL they are very likely to send them back to you by EMS anyway. I know that UK and France consulates both use EMS.
Fedex has a new domestic promotion going. But the problem is that if you want tracking, Fedex often has no tracking on packages out of Kunming for up to 3 days. EMS is your best buy and your best bet.
On a taxi trip a few weeks ago I had a silly luck to see an EMS vehicle pass by. So I have the number here: 11185, in case you need it.
