soy sauce and other condiments without msg

Magnifico (1981 posts) • 0

it may not be a useless post. although bbq sauce has preservatives, it apparently doesn't have msg. and (arguably, but difficult to prove) msg is worse for health. peace out.

Really...a naturally occurring substance that has been used for over a hundred years with multiple studies conducted on its safety is worse for health than artificial preservatives and chemical flavorings?

Tonyaod, MSG hundred years?? Magnifico, so do you want to promote the Torula Yeast as better than MSG, right? Or your meaning was: cooking without soy sauce...just don't put it, put some other shit, - right?

Yes blue, it was invented and started being used in Japan about a hundred years ago. Wiki it.

well ok, for msg, dr. mercola at mercola.com doesn't have too many flattering things to say about it. there's quite a few negative articles about msg on there.

and also, if msg is so healthy, why did frito-lay remove it from its products?

articles.mercola.com/[...]
"chip manufacturers keep searching for methods to improve the image of their health-harming but profitable snacks. For example, by the end of 2011, about half of Pepsi's Frito-Lay brand snacks will be reformulated with all-natural ingredients. The switch is part of PepsiCo's master plan to tap into the healthy foods market share.

The company will remove dietary hazards like monosodium glutamate (MSG), replacing it with natural seasonings, such as molasses and paprika. Artificial colors will be replaced with beet juice, purple cabbage, and carrots. All in all, about different 60 snacks are scheduled to get an all-natural makeover."

ps pringles are not made with potatoes! ha ha ha.

Can Chinese Food Cause Cancer?

Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a common ingredient in Chinese food, may cause stomach cancer, according to a study by researchers at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Research Institute.

Their analysis of 134 patients found that nearly half of those with stomach, rectal and colon cancer were regular consumers of Chinese food from middle- or low-end restaurants. Most of them also had ulcers, which were also linked to MSG.

In 2004, the World Health Organization declared MSG unsafe for human consumption, but it is still widely used.

Tony, I'm quite informed about it. you're confusing the "invention" (from a japanese scientist) with the spread on market(1954). So you cannot say"used by hundred years." plus..natural substance? are you sure?? of course wiki will not explain you what's behind.

Tonyaod (824 posts) • 0

Not an expert on the subject nor claiming to be one, however, a hundred year, almost a hundred year, does it really make a difference to my previous statement? Probably not. Also, are you sure in did not appear in Japanese market until 1954?

@Magnifico, who the hell is Dr. Mercola and why should his views carry more weight? Also, 134 patients is a very small study and would be statistically insignificant. And what about the billions of consumers that suffers no ill affects?

WHO banned MSG in 2004? Please provide a link to back up your claim.

Maybe Tony you think you are an expert, but you're not so informed. MSG natural...hihihi, this is quite big, man, not less than Mr.Mercola's.
