@Alien, didn't notice much reduction in traffic in Beijing due to subway.

I think they keep the subway ticket low in Beijing as if they don't get as many people underground then they will have complete traffic paralysis combined with chaos on their bus system every day.

Yeah, it was one of the reasons they expanded the subway. I think they also did odd and even plate numbers days for cars.
If people were a bit less selfish on the road and if rules were enforced more strictly, this might have helped add fluidity to the traffic.

Here it is:

"Construction on lines 1 and 2 of Kunming Metro officially began in April 2010. The two lines were originally scheduled to open in 2012, but delayed until early 2013. Construction on line 3 began in August 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2016."

@Geezer - I just checked my calendar and discovered that "early 2013" was about a year ago.

They're still working on the entrances to the station up at the north Wal-Mart so I'm going to guess it's not open yet.

@blobbles and @AlPage48

Of course it has been open for nearly a year. The ribbon cutting was a very low profile event and for security reasons ridership has been restrained. The slow, and tightly controlled increase in riders insures harmony, mutual benefit and respect among passengers. The nearly two year delay in opening subway operations will insure realization of the Kunming Metro dream.
