Beginning to really like Kunming

"I cannot believe that I complemented Kunming, and this entire sh*tfest is the result! LOL geez"

Don't worry, I used the term "laowai" in a forum post title and you should have seen that sh*tfest from people with little better to do than get offended at virtually nothing. Your username is crazy.laowai, I suspect the same people may just have a go at you because they believe you are calling all laowai's crazy! They may even say something as ridiculous as "your username is as offensive as someone using crazy.nigger or crazy.jew, frankly I am disgusted at your behaviour and believe you have a mental problem".

A lot of the commentators on here need to take a good hard look at themselves...

But Kunming definitely isn't a bad place to be. I like the weather, the altitude (great for training and going back to sea level!), the people are pretty laid back, a nice laowai community (once we are off GoKM!), good food and fairly pretty city particularly around green lake etc.

Yes, Mum is always right. Take care and good luck in search of a livable place... KM is too dangerous for you.

I will preface the following comment by stating that I believe there is a very real possibility that 'crazy.laowai' is actually 'Gaoxing' v2.0: a much subtler and more cunning breed of troll. Robert Patrick to Gaoxing's Arnold Schwarzenegger (if you don't understand the reference, that's why they invented Google).

At least that's my way of reconciling the seeming existence of such an inane individual.

If my suspicions are wrong, however, and he is a real person, here goes: complemented and complimented are two different words. Didn't I read him writing somewhere on this site that he was an English teacher? Idiot.

1. I am not Gaoxing.
2. Yes, I made a typographical error. So sue me.
3. I do not appreciate being called an idiot. I am far from it.
4. Be nice.

I don't think I've ever seen such a trollable forum. I think I could make 123go cry if I trolled hard enough.

pickley, how is it "trolling" to say I like Kunming?

crazy.laowai, I don't think you're a troll, but you're having the same effect as one, drawing out the worst in everyone on this forum.

Some suggestions that might calm things down:

— Post less often! Your threads have made up like 40% or more of daily volume since you got here.

— Search the forum (or even Google!) before asking questions. People think you're trolling because you ask questions that have been answered before, or that a simple amount of research might answer. Ask a silly question...

— Don't feed the trolls. Looking at you, 123go, BillDan. It might be fun, but it's tiresome for the rest of us.

— Go out and meet some people! If you want to meet other expats, go to Salvadors or any of the other places on Wenlin jie or Wenhua xiang, or go to Sandra's, etc. in the north. Go take some classes at Keats or Mei's. Even better, go meet some locals— join an english corner or two. Not only will they tell you all the stuff you're asking about here, but you'll develop a life outside of the blue and yellow.

....

And to keep it on-topic, I love Kunming. The weather is great, the air quality is better than most places in China, having access to the rest of Yunnan is incredible, there's *enough* western stuff around that if I need a break from China I can go have a terrible burger at Salvador's (the nachos are better), I happen to LOVE Yunnan food, and yes, I even like this forum, despite all the crap.

That's not to say that there aren't things I don't like (TICExpat's breakdown of the types of expats was spot-on, and I miss good food from other parts of China and SE Asia), but on the whole I'm pretty happy here.

Stick around and *relax*. This is one of the few places left in China where that's still a possibility.
