I am looking to learn mandarin chinese here in Kunming.. I want to know what people think is the best school to learn chinese in kunming is, and if there are any to stay away from.

If you already have a basic communication level - the BEST solution is to get a local gf or bf (someone you see every day with near zero foreign language skills) and bludgeon your way through learning to live together.

I have 2 Eurasian/hapa children (6 and 2) whose Chinese is limited to less than a handful of words. I figured they'd learn the language when I send them to China for the summer. But having visited last year, I doubt it'd be so easy. All my relatives spoke (or tried to speak) English to them, so they didn't learn any Chinese at all. Is anyone familiar with any programs or schools that teach Chinese to young children?

too late to give you suggestion, Chinese culture is too profound, if anyone can teach you not only basic chinese but also containing a lot of knowledge about history, religion, politics, geograph, etc. It would be your best choice. It depends on your luck, lots of teachers couldn't illurstrate Chinese very well. Good luck to you>
