@bjtokm Seattle had some great food for sure. The other day I searched Google images for pictures of meals from Denny's and El Azteca. I was looking at the images so hard it was almost like I was surfing porn sites. But some great food, plain and simple. No if, ands or buts about it. Won't find it here though. And if you do it won't last long. There was a kebab guy that used to work out of the front of the old Box restaurant. Pretty darn good but only lasted for one summer then he went back to Lijiang. Nice guy too. Just another memory of what food could be like here.
BillDan, Are you from Seattle? what neighborhood? hahah I used to go to El Azteca when I was a kid, The one near golden garden.
I,lived for ten years across the lake in Bel-Red. Near the lake area. I across the bridge over Mercer Island all the time to hang out downtown. You got me remembering some place I used top frequent, like Elliot Bay Book Store. Man, I miss John Sliver Silver's Seafood! Deep fried cod with tartar sauce and malt vinegar!!!
Kebabs are sold all over Kunming and Yunnan. It's a signature food here due to the large Muslim population. Nearly all muslim Restaurants have them on the menu (big skewers, small skewers, dried beef skewers and even tiny ones on toothpicks. They sell the skewers on the street, they sell them even mounted on bbq's on the back of scooters.
Just have to have the stomach for them as the ones sold on the street are not kept refrigerated. My stomach gets upset. But I eat them at least once or twice a week in a restaurant :)
PS: If they don't have them at your favorite restaurant, just ask if they can make some and give them a call to let them know you're coming for dinner and want to have ... skewers :)
I wasn't talking about the skewers, I was talking about doner kebabs :) As was the OP I think.

Oh, Doner Kebab! I thought you guys were talking about Shish Kebab.
Yup, that would be nice to have for sure. With garlic mayo, salad in a pita bread. Yum Yum :D
Has anyone seen or heard of any doner kebab place in Kunming in last few years? I'm itching for some...

On Canal Street in New York. I know one person here knows what I am talking about.
It would seem 3 years on we're no closer to a Donna Kebab.
Would that be a doner kebab? Happy to stay away from that mess....
