I need to go to Hong Kong in November and have started to check on available flights. There doesn't seem to be much available and they all look expensive.
Does anybody (you must) have experience or recommendations. I'm looking for non-stop / return.
So far I have not found anything that arrives in Hong Kong before late afternoon so I would need to do an overnight to connect with the Air Canada flight to Toronto. It would be a lot cheaper if I could get an early flight and skip the hotel.
Flights to HK, particularly one-way ones, are never cheap.
To get a cheap flight, fly to Shenzhen instead, where you can sometimes get flights for under Y500. From Shenzhen you can get direct transport to HK Airport for Y180 if you are in a hurry (bus to border, cross China border controls on foot, then by shared limousine through HK immigration and straight to airport, will take under two hours, they sell the tickets in the Shenzhen arrivals area, impossible to miss), or cheaper if you take local busses.
Shenzhen is an option but also an inconvenience. My wife will be meeting me in Hong Kong when I return from Toronto. She gets lost easy so I wouldn't want her going via Shenzhen when I can meet her more easily at the airport in Hong Kong.
Al,
There's a little known airline (Mainland owned) called Hong Kong Airlines that flies direct between HK & KM, amongst other Chinese cities as well as a few international cities. I flew on it once last year round trip for HK$1,700. The only inconvenience I experienced was running back & forth between Terminal Buildings 1 & 2 in HK to obtaining my boarding pass and boarding the plane for the HK to KM flight. The KM to HK flight was simple & easy.
