Just been to Metro and smelled bread.
The bakery has re-opened. Looks like they have had a re-fit and new bakery installed.
Don't know if there will be any improvement in quality, but at least I can get cheap sliced white for my toast in the mornings.
ya, i went there as well. but, my favourite mexican bun doesn't look as delicious as before. ) : still, seems to be way better than before though.
(at least, baked bread doesn't sit inside the dodge flame like last time)
I'm sorely disappointed actually. What happened to the racks of nice fresh breads and the white loaves they did at 5.5Kuai? When I went over the weekend and all they had that was "western" and "fresh" French sticks which felt very very hard, along with equally hard rolls and someown brand "Toast" bread which, when I got home, was very very dry.
Sad times. I hope I just went at a bad time.
my fav bun wasn't on the shelf too ... :(
The bread are old probably because many are still not informed about the newly opened bakery. Hence, old bread is still sitting on the shelf. Hopefully, it will get better!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, there were these huge loaves of white bread ( sliced) on the shelf. It looks fresh and costs RMB 8.80 ( i think). It was probably the best deal but the loaf was too big for me. So, i didn't get any
the big loaf is the toast loaf. I guess they may be dry if you go at the wrong time.
I usually buy 3 - 4 loaves and freeze them. You can make toast from the freezer.
Sometimes the french bread is hard. I think the shelf life is really only a few hours. I buy the french bread rolls, and they also freeze. I thaw them by taking one out of the bag and putting it in a smaller plastic bag to thaw. In the winter I do this on the heater.
If the bread is wrapped it does not dry out much when you freeze it.
