I just returned to Kunming after living several months in Xiamen. So I had to restock my food, off to Metro I went.
Is it just me, or has Metro gone in the toilet? NO imported food, dirty store, and 2 times more lazy workers standing around always in the way. I won.t shop there again.
In contrast, Xiamen Metro is jammed with imported food and hardgoods.
Whoever the idiot is managing the Kunming branch must be an ex Trust Mart worker.
You must have been in wrong aisle - - we get plenty of imported food there. Cheers - - JJ
Strange. I shopped there 3 days ago and it was heaving with imported food. The workers seemed really busy too - closing down aisle after aisle to restock the shelves... Sure it was Metro you went to?
Have either of the previous two posters been to a Metro in Shanghai? Big, big difference.
A lot of what is stocked is based on sales, and negotiated (sold) shelf space.
But even a tier 3 city like Zhenghzhou has more international foods.
Not really fare to compare with Xiamen, as it was the first city to open in China and has been more cosmopolitan for longer. I also think Xiamen will have more full-pats and less half-pats (opp. to KMG), who have families who complain if they have to wipe with anything less than Charmin Ultra, and NEED peanut butter and choco spread, crunchy nut cherrios, and pancake mix.
Walmart is sometimes a viable alternative - but Metro definitely has the BULK purchase capability. For one-sy two-sey, there's that small store several meters away from Salvadors that stocks international fare, including cigars.
Yeah, I agree with the original poster. I try to buy all my stuff in small shops but when I have no other choice I go to the Metro. Half the staff is just standing around phoning or sending text messages. It really gets on my nerves. Horrible managing, really! I still go back because Walmart and Carrefour are just too crowded for me. But only if I really have to.
I heard there was a change of management at Metro. Localisation.
I agree with Bucko, Metro has gone way way downhill. The foreign goods area has a lot of Chinese stuff taking up space. Other, foreign brands made in China, are disappearing.
Also, noticed a pretty good jump in prices about two weeks ago. Many items under 40 yuan went up 2 to 5 kuai. Also have noticed inflation by deflation where in you get less but pay 1-2 kuai more.
All large pizzas have disappeared. They have a " 9" " pizza in a white box that is now less than 8" and costs 5 kuai more. The other smaller pizzas have also shrunk.
The Metro own brand AKA is horrible quality.
Few choices in Kunming and less to be had at what was once a pretty good store.
Suggest y'all complain to the metro.cn website. Alert the china management there may be a problem with the local metro here.
