Just reread my post and could have written better, I was talking to Jeffrey as well when I made that comment in case anyone thought different!

All my sources always said you cannot own a property as a foreigner in China. I am surprised to learn you can buy an apartment.
I assume the same rule applies still that the property can only be used for living for yourself. Thus no renting out to other people?

Buy an apartment is no problem as a foreigner, slightly harder to sell from a red tape point of view.
Renting your own apartment to others is also no problem.
These days (In the past it was OK) Laowai getting home loans in Kunming is almost impossible, probably impossible.

2 - Chu Rang - 出让 - To Sell -
3 - Shang Ye Fang - 商业房 - Commercial -
4 - Zhu Zhai - 住宅 - Residential -
