What do you mean by leaving... switching schools? traveling? Just want to wander around Kunming doing nothing?

Of course, please tell us what school you're currently studying at....

I've heard of such things, no personal experience. Makes some sense. Technically, your 6 month visa means the school is responsible for you for 100% of those 6 months. So if you're not going to be coming to classes they can no longer vouch for your whereabouts, activities, safety...

Yes, schools can cancel your visa. They are the ones supposedly vouching for your safety and whereabouts, as baiyuxiang said, so if you are not going to be in classes for those extra 2 months they for sure could cancel your visa.

no, they cannot cancel your visa. your student visa has already
expired. it was valid for 000 days, but allowed you 30 days to
get registered and apply for a residence permit.

they can have your residence permit revoked. they are your sponsor
and are responsible for you. you will normally be given a residence
permit valid for the amount of study time you've paid tuition for.

the police will occasionally visit the schools and ask for attendance
records. students that have disappeared have had their permits
revoked, and can then be deported.

Which school are you studying at?

If it's a private school you shouldn't have a probelm. If they went around cancelling visas it'd be really bad for business. For the last couple of years i regularly attend class for the first couple of months, then somehow get lost on the way to school after that...

However, if you're at a University it may be slightly different. I've heard from friends that some of the Uni's are a lot stricter on attendance.
