We ended up going to the clinic on 121 street affiliated with Yunnan Agricultural University. We took an interpreter with us (can recommend her! Monica 15334396163). The vet and the techs were polite and helpful but the place was not modern by any stretch. Kitty is doing a little better now, but the way he explained the surgery options was not comforting (and I peeked in the OR. A little scary). We had to really dig in to get him to explain the risks and the prognosis.

Too soon for a verdict, but thus far a mixed bag.

Well, 2 years later...I am no closer to finding a good vet who can spay my dog than I was! If anyone has any news about good veterinary care/spaying my 5 year old dog, I would appreciate it!

Just a side note: BTW, the Kunming Animal Hospital was WONDERFUL with my dog when she, at 5 years old, came down with Parvo. I was told by another vet that she did not need parvo preventative vaccine due to her age, but alas, she contracted it. Thankfully she survived and the vets there did a GREAT job. From what I have heard though, they are not the best with spaying a female dog. If that is not true or anyone has any other leads or stories to share, PLEASE do! Thanks! :)

As a followup to my year-ago post, the kitty's surgery went very well at the clinic on 121 st. We had to go every day afterwards for 10 days to give her food/water/antibiotics by IV, and we had to be annoying and insist the nurses wore gloves, but kitty is now healthier and happier than she's ever been, even as a 9-year-old.

i know this is an old post, but does anyone know where a good place to get my cat spayed would be? id like to take care of it before she goes into heat and I dont want to argue with chinese vets about it, i just want it done safely.

Univ. vet at the end of 121 street —65323410, though they failed to cure my cat of his liver problem last year coz it was too serious (his death still makes my heart broken), I still think it's the best vet in kunming. With my help, an American couple had their cat operated on there and the vet did a good job.
