Hi QQWEN, I can't agree more wiht you, we have had a 土狗 for about 6 years now, great family dog, 能看家 a good local choice and much a better choice for Yunnan than a lot of the larger breeds that are "popular."

Bucko is correct. If you're disgusted by these dog merchants' treatment of their wares, do not patronize their business.

The same goes for zoos here. They're in it for a profit, too. Seeing an elephant in chains bothers you? Don't buy the ticket.

The same goes for circuses. See above.

The same goes for meat. If slaughterhouses had glass walls....

,,and they call us barbarians. Extended family okay. Anything else is just a commodity you should try to extract the maximum amount of money from. Morals? What's that? Animal welfare? Not in the dictionary.

Like one of the other posts, our family bought a poodle from the pet market near Chun Yuan Xiaoqu. It is on Jin Wa Pu Lu near Red Star. I had a very good experience. The dogs are healthy looking, and seem to be well cared for. You can buy most of the popular breeds that you see here in KM: poodles, labs, huskies, chows, and etc. Prices can be expensive, but bargain and bargain hard. We gave 600 for our poodle. Some vendors wanted as much as 4,000 for some poodles. Good luck on a dog. This is our first poodle, and I would highly recommend one. Other than grooming, he is pretty low maintenance. He does well inside an apartment, and he house broke faster than previous dogs we had in the States. He is less than a year old, and he is pretty obedient and learns fast. He is still a puppy; therefore, he can be hyper at times, but we think poodles are an excellent breed for KM lifestyle.

These animal's conditions is because people are still buying them. As others said before me, if you want an animal, adopt one. If you buy them, go to zoos, circus, etc. there will always be people making money from animals.

By the way, is there any dog-cat shelter in Kunming?

I lived in Kunming for 5 years and I never go to the zoo here. I won't support any business that handles or "cares" for any animal in China. One exception, The Panda reserve in Chengdu.
