Michael: If you're going to update your passport information in WeChat, make sure you first take out any money that's left in your WeChat account, or you'll lose it. You'll also use all transaction history, which can be inconvenient if you're using WeChat to keep track of certain payments. You'll have to delete your WeChat pay account and recreate it. This otherwise won't affect your WeChat chat history and such.

Be careful! I heard that they 'temporarily' stopped new registrations on WeChat. Don't delete your account until you are sure you can create a new one.

Livinginchina: I don't recommend to remove your WeChat account at all. but it's the WeChat Pay account you need to remove if you want to update your passport number.

I'm going to start believing in miracles.

This morning I deleted the health code apps on both WeChat and AliPay as I've done several times in the past.

Today, however, when I again scanned the code in AliPay, I first got the registration screen, followed immediately with the green shield.

I guess it pay to not give up.

I have wechat and the green square refused to change to a shield, even after both jabs. I had never used alipay before, but based on what you guys suggested I installed alipay and connected it to my chinese bank account, then installed the health app and now I have the shield! Also the new metro/bus app didn't work on wechat but works through alipay!

For anyone still struggling with passport change, I believe in AliPay (at least, could be in WeChat too) the health app automatically refreshes itself every X days (2 weeks maybe), requesting user to input address and other info again.

At that time it also pulls the current (new) passport number from the main AliPay account. Doing anything manually probably does not help unless that internal refresh happens to take place at same time.

Just checked my healthcode and now it says 'unvaccinated'! WTF! They must be testing it or something.
