Mosquito Net

miealex (46 posts) • 0

Hey everyone. I recently moved to a new place and the walls are all wood panelling so I can't find the buggers. Does anyone know where I can pick up a net to put around my bed? I saw one in Walmart but if anyone knows a better place, let me know (of course taobao will work but if I can pick one up today it would save a few more sleepless nights). Thanks.

No place better than Walmart, Carrefour, for price. The bedding shops charge silly money. Metro north might have them, Metro south is too small. Some local chinese chain supermarkets carry them this time of year.

If you have a choice, get the ones that do not have the full mesh at the bottom, otherwise you will lie on the mesh, unless you put another sheet down. There are also bamboo mats that you can put down, but it does not really get that hot here, and these mats can attract other insects.

The mosquito nets usually come in 3 different sizes, 1m, 1.5m, and 1.8m.

A slight tangent, if you want a quick fix, there is a product sold almost everywhere in China named HuaLuShui. There are two fragrances and two types, one type is a very effective mosquito repellent that is alcohol based and non sticky and it lasts up to 12 hours. It comes in glass bottles, or pump spray bottles.

The mosquito repellent one has a mosquito with a bar going through it on the label. Not expensive.

@tiger
Um the mesh nets - we put the mattress on TOP of the mesh and take the net down every few years to replace them - as they're rather inexpensive.

Yes I can see that, now. Unfortunately I would have to call in help to do that. We use the kind that has curtains that wrap around the bed and go down to the floor. No need to struggle with the mattress and easy to take down to clean.

In 10 years I've never needed a net.

For some unknown reason they prefer dining on my wife.

I saw a net yesterday at Walmart.

I've never noticed or even thought about them before.

It had poles that gave it the appearance of being a 4-poster bed, and the nets came to the floor as Tiger mentioned.

Hey guys, thanks. Yeah, I got one of those tent looking ones from Walmart. Set it up and through my mattress topper in to weight it down. So far, so good.

We tried the floor length drapes - but Kunming mosquitoes are patient and always seemed to find their ways inside, so we used the tents to trap the pesky insects inside with us. A bright flashlight and a bug zapper also help facilitate a good nite's rest.
