Would anyone be able to tell me what 'District' I'd be looking for, if I'd like to live within a km or two of the Green Lake area (ie the West/NW/SW) of Kunming centre?

Would this be Xishan, Jinning, Wuhua? Maps of Kunming with districts in pinyin are quite difficult to find online!

try maps.google.com. they even have satellite views - you can look for your apt complex and the relative distance from school.

Kunming's city districts are not too useful as the areas they cover are rather large. Xishan, Wuhua, Panlong and Guandu pretty much divide the city into quadrants - SW, NW, NE and SE, respectively. There is talk of Chenggong (further SE) being turned into an urban district in the near future.

The Green Lake area is in Wuhua District.
