Fu Xian lake used to be a wonderful place to swim but now it's forbidden to swim there. There should be ponds, reservoirs or small lakes nearby kunming

You should be aware, MOST open water areas have prolific NO SWIMMING signs posted along with NO LIFEGUARDS. Swim at your own risk and definitely don't pollute the water with shampoos, soaps, etc.

Fuxian lake is 3 different counties. It is possible that the swimming ban only took effect in the resorts on the west side (due to ignorant visitors using shampoo).
It is possible that swimming is still permitted in HaiKou (east side), as a large part of the income of the village stems from water activities (esp swimming). Not certain, but possible. Even if not permitted, often bans are not enforced, after the initial period.

It's technically not allowed, but quite a lot of people do it anyway, in the northwest corner of the Sanjiacun reservoir. It's located in the Qipanshan area, just west of Kunming, between Xishan and Bamboo Temple.
