Right now I see ads for Cycling, Books Club, French/Wine/Movie, Music Festivals/Concerts, Halloween Parties...

Just chose one and turn up. You'll "click" with someone soon enough and that will lead to other social opportunities (eg why not offer to cook a meal from some new friends?). Good luck!
